India

From the palace-dotted plains of Rajasthan to the spice-scented backwaters of Kerala — India is ancient, overwhelming, and utterly impossible to forget.

Few countries hit you the way India does. The colour, the noise, the sheer scale of it - and then, just when you think you've got a handle on it, a tiger steps into a clearing in Ranthambore, a maharaja's palace becomes your hotel for the night, and you're watching the sun rise over the Taj Mahal with a cup of chai in your hand. India doesn't ease you in. It pulls you under, and you won't want to come back up.

Rajasthan is where most journeys begin - the Pink City of Jaipur, the blue-washed streets of Jodhpur, the golden fort of Jaisalmer rising from the Thar Desert. Layer in the Taj Mahal and the Mughal grandeur of Delhi and you have the Golden Triangle, one of the great travel routes on earth. But go deeper. Stay in a converted haveli, ride out into the dunes at dusk, take tea in a village that hasn't changed in centuries — this is where luxury and authenticity collide most beautifully.

Move south and the mood shifts entirely. Kerala unfolds slowly through palm-fringed backwaters, spice plantations and mist-draped hill stations. Drift the waterways on a converted rice barge, hike the tea gardens of Munnar at dawn, or sit on a Varkala clifftop and let the Arabian Sea do the rest.

India's wildlife is extraordinary and consistently underrated. Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh, Kanha - some of the best tiger territory on the planet, with boutique jungle lodges that rival anything in Africa. And the food alone is worth the flight.

Whatever draws you: the romance of Rajasthan, the serenity of the south, a Himalayan adventure or all three - we design every itinerary from scratch. No group tours, no fixed departures. Just your trip, built around you.

Fact Sheet

Best Time to Visit:

India is a vast country and the best time to visit depends on where you're heading. For Rajasthan and the Golden Triangle, October to March offers cooler, drier conditions ideal for exploring. Kerala and the south are best visited between November and February when the monsoon has passed. For wildlife safaris, the dry season from March to June gives the best game-viewing as animals gather around water sources. The Himalayan regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are best between May and October before the winter snowfall closes higher routes. India's festival calendar is extraordinary year-round — Diwali in October/November and Holi in March are bucket-list experiences if the timing aligns.

Visa Information:

Most nationalities require a visa to enter India. The Indian e-Visa (eTV) is available online for citizens of most countries and covers tourism, business and medical visits for stays of up to 90 days. We strongly recommend applying at least 4 days before your departure date. For the most up-to-date visa requirements for UK citizens, visit: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/india. Regulations can change, so always confirm with your consulate or embassy before travelling.

Health & Travel Insurance:

Some vaccinations are recommended for travel to India depending on your destinations and activities — including Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and in some regions, Malaria prophylaxis. We always recommend consulting your GP well in advance of travel for the most current advice. Travel insurance is mandatory for all Goko Travels trips — please ensure your policy covers the regions and activities included in your itinerary and carry a copy with you at all times.
