A luxury boutique resort, idyllically located on the stunning stores of Baa Atoll UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Opening its doors in November 2016, the luxury boutique Milaidhoo resort is idyllically located on the stunning stores of Baa Atoll UNESCO biosphere reserve

Overlooking the magnificent Hanifaru Bay, and 126km northwest of Male, this paradise island, fringed by soft white sand beaches, tropical greenery and turquoise waters, measures a tiny 300m by 180m in diameter.

More notably, this stunning resort boasts its very own protected coral reef and is home to the largest manta ray concentration in the world - making it the ideal place for nature enthusiasts and keen divers. With environmental conservation being at the heart of Milaidhoo islands philosophy, it’s hard not to fall in love with this place over and over again.

Besides from its phenomenal location and romantic setting, the fine dining options in Milaidhoo are simply sublime. Set overlooking the waterfront, the resort's main restaurant Ba'theli was inspired by the region's traditional dhonis - which now lays claims as the only restaurant on the earth set on a boat within a lagoon. Here you may enjoy gourmet cuisine based on Maldivian spices that these merchant vessels would have traditionally carried on their spice routes. Aside from Ba’theli, guests can enjoy all-day dining at the Ocean restaurant, as well as a beach grill that features intimate outdoor beach cabanas for two, a chef's table, and an opulent wine cellar. For maximum relaxation, on the east side of the island guests are relaxed with a luxury spa, yoga pavilion and an infinity pool for adults only.

With all accommodation options flaunting thatched roofs, private pools, outside decking areas, overwater gazebos/day beds, bespoke furniture and a contemporary design, Milaidhoo’s stylish villas are some of the most beautiful villas in the Maldives. For the ultimate in luxury, opt for one of the residences, where you’ll have your very own butler, private chef and outdoor cinema.

Designed for couples seeking peace and privacy, Milaidhoo welcomes all guests aged nine and above. This is your tropical paradise.

The protection of our fragile environment is at the forefront of everything this resort des. Here’s a quick overview of what’s most important to them:

  • Use a state-of-the-art water and STP plant ensuring no contaminants enter the ocean and making best practicable re-use of grey water.
  • Use accredited eco-friendly chemicals in their laundry and cleaning. Due to the harsh nature of the chemicals involved, they don’t offer dry cleaning services.
  • Have a coral regeneration programme in place. Guests can support this by ‘adopting’ a reef of their own, planting it and watching it grow over the years.
  • Support and work with local charities such as The Manta Trust and Manta Matcher.
  • Have a sustainability plan that considers environmental, socio-cultural, quality and health & safety issues. This plan is measured, evaluated and updated annually to ensure continued progress.
  • Comply with all local environmental laws, standards and regulations. These are kept updated and referred to regularly.

Marine Biologist

With the UNESCO biosphere reserve and the world-famous Hanifaru Bay on your doorstep, this is a great opportunity for you to learn more about the incredible wildlife in the area from the resident marine biologist. Here you may discover what makes whale sharks tick, why manta rays dance, what makes dolphins smile and help with identification and conservation practices.

Snorkelling Hanifaru Bay:

The jewel of the UNESCO biosphere reserve is undoubtedly Hanifaru Bay, the place where – in season – the world’s largest groupings of manta rays can be seen. This is also the place for whale shark spotting. Snorkelling with these peaceful ocean giants is an unmissable experience.

The season runs from June to November each year and sightings depend on many factors such as tide times, moon phases and currents. Milaidhoo aim to run three trips a week to Hanifaru Bay (weather permitting) and can also offer private excursions for just two, which is accompanied by the in-house marine biologist.
