Tour Itinerary

Welcome to Melbourne! Your week will start on Monday morning, so you need to be in Melbourne for the Sunday night. Landing a few days before? No worries! Your airport pickup is included for any day before the tour and we can organise any extra nights required at the YHA accommodation.
Our morning meet and greet will see you get to know your new travel family before we put you at total ease by organising your bank, phone number and tax file number. This means that you’re organised for life in Australia from the start! After that it’s time for us to take you on a guided tour of Melbourne where you’ll learn why so many travellers love this incredibly diverse city. We’ll end the day with a riverside group Welcome Meal (dinner included) on Southbank, one of Australia’s most iconic settings.
Melbourne is home to the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest open air market and it is a true treat for all the senses. After haggling a bargain and exploring the wonders of Queen Victoria Market’s, we will spend the afternoon in the most Melbourne way possible: eating and drinking. It feels like Melbourne has more food establishments than anywhere in the world so we thought the best way to showcase that was to create an exclusive food tour just for you….SO WE DID!
Sure, we want you to experience this fantastic city, but we also want you to see it’s beautiful surrounds. Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island are two of the most incredible yet barely touched spots in Australia. We will be having some much needed BEACH time, we’ll be WINE tasting, heading to spectacular SCENIC lookouts and to finish off we’ll be watching over 500 PENGUINS running across the beach. Yes, you read that right!.
Australia is known for its famous SURF and today you’ll complete another Australian must do as you learn how to ride a wave. This day includes a few hidden secrets along the way but the all you need to know is that you will get the chance to get up close to KOALAS and KANGAROOS. Another bucket list item ticked, two in one day! April-September Surfing may be replaced by kayaking or mountain biking (this is weather dependent and at the discretion of the tour guide)
Melbourne has many celebrated suburbs and St Kilda is as famous as they get. We’ll head to this quaint beach suburb taking in its iconic promenade, alfresco cafes and famous landmarks. The afternoon will be spent lazing on the beach, paddle boarding (included!) April-September the St Kilda beach day will be replaced with a visit to the Melbourne Aquarium and a beautiful river cruise before viewing Melbourne from the highest viewing platform in Australia; the incredible Eureka Skydeck.
Do you want to go in to work or do you want to travel? Either way we will get you organised! Saturday is the perfect time to look at everything you will need after your first week in Australia. We’ll go through all of our job resources including resume writing, employer database and farm-work opportunities, as well show you how to explore this magnificent country. This will be done in a group AND one-on-one setting meaning you’ll leave with all questions answered. What do we need after that? To join Melbourne’s biggest bar crawl of course!
And just like that, it’s nearly over. What better way to spend our final Sunday afternoon together than lazing on a rooftop overlooking the city with your new travel family? We’ll crank up the BBQ, hand out the beers and soak up the skyline as we talk about the memories made over the best week of your life.

> Passport (required) (With photocopies)

> Required visas or vaccination certificates (required) (With photocopies)

Cash:

Credit and debit cards are readily accepted just about everywhere in Australia. You can usually withdraw money from shops where EFTPOS is available. ATMs are common across Australia, but may be limited in remote areas but your guides will advise you when to withdraw extra cash.

Tipping is not expected but appreciated.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. Please be aware that wifi and internet access is not as readily available in Australia as in other parts of the world. There are often additional charges to connect to the internet, and speeds may be slower than what you are used to.

2. Over public holidays in Australia and New Zealand (such as Christmas, New Years Day, Easter, and Anzac Day) there may be some limitations of services and disruptions to schedules. In general our tours still operate effectively over public holidays, but there may be closures of optional activities and restaurants, and slight itinerary adjustments in order to provide all tour inclusions.

ITINERARY CHANGES:

Please note that some of our planned activities are contingent on seasonal conditions. We will arrange alternative activities if this is the case. This is a flexible itinerary and may be altered to allow for better times to view certain inclusions depending on sunset/sunrise and weather conditions.

WET SEASON & WEATHER:

Given the unpredictable nature of weather and travel in the tropics, we are sometimes forced to make late itinerary changes due to unexpected heavy rain and/or storms and road closures. In the event of this occurring, itinerary changes may need to be implemented after commencement of you trip. In this event, your Tour guides have full authority to change the itinerary and/or order of activities and substitute alternative destinations and activities as necessary. No refunds are available due to itinerary changes and missed activities caused by extreme weather conditions and/or road closures.

Due to distances covered, this trip involves early departures on some mornings and frequent stops between destinations.

ARIVIAL:

We don't expect any problems, and nor should you, but if for any reason you are unable to commence your trip as scheduled, as soon as possible please contact GoKo Travels or your Tour leader on the numbers provided in the contact selection of this document (bottom).

If you are unable to get in touch with your with us via the details given on our website, please refer to our emergency contact details.

You do not need to pre-booked an airport transfer, as your tour leader will collect you from outside the airport and will take you to your Starting Point hotel.

PASSPORT & VISAS:

Passports and Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveller. All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity) and entry requirements can change at any time, so it's important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality.

All travellers, except New Zealand citizens, must obtain a visa or travel authority before travelling to Australia. Failure to do so means you may not be allowed to board your flight to Australia. Most nationalities can obtain an Electronic Travel Authority via the internet before arrival. Please check the following website or with your relevant Australian visa issuing office for your nationalities requirements. http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/

If you do not hold a passport from any of countries that can apply for an ETA, you cannot apply for an ETA online. You may be eligible to apply for an ETA through an airline or an Australian visa office. Alternatively, you may be eligible to apply for other types of electronic visitor visas. Please See: www.immi.gov.au

FLIGHTS & TRAVEL INSURANCE

Flights:

GoKo Travels doesn't currently have the facilities to book your external/international flights. Therefore, you will have to prearrange your own flights to the required destination. We are always looking to improve our services, therefore, are planning to implement this solution as soon as possible.

Please not that the max luggage allowance on domestic flights within Australia is 1 checked bag (20 kgs) and 1 carry on (7 kgs) per person

Travel Insurance:

Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your Tour leader/ local representative, who will take note of your insurance details and emergency contact number. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability of luggage, cancellation, curtailment and loss and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

MONEY

When it comes to spending money on the trip, every traveller is a little different. Some prefer to spend all their money on alcohol, whille other prefer souvenirs. You know your spending habits better than we do, so please budget a sensible amount for things like meals not included, drinks, shopping, optional activities and laundry. It's always better to bring a little more than you think you'll need. Also make sure you've read your trip details thoroughly so you know what's included in the trip price and what isn't. This should make budgeting a little easier.

Money Exchange:

The Australian Dollar (A$) is the currency of Australia.

As currency exchange rates in Australia fluctuate often we ask that you refer to the following website for daily exchange rates: www.xe.com.

Importance of money:

Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere in Australia and can be used to purchase small and large items. When purchasing products or services with a foreign credit card you may be charged additional fees by your credit card company for foreign purchases.

Credit cards and debit cards are very useful for cash advances but you must remember to bring your PIN number (be aware that many ATM machines only accept 4-digit PINs). While ATMs are commonly available, there are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work so check with your bank before you travel. A travel card is recommended to save you money on transaction fees and they are normally accepted at all ATMS.

We also recommend a combination of local currency (preferably smaller bills, 5's, 10's and 20's), and credit cards for best practice. Currency exchange is best obtained prior to travel or at the airport, however, currency exchange is easy to find in Australia in the gateway cities and most banks do provide this service.

Contingency Funds:

Make sure you've read your trip details thoroughly so you know what's included in the trip price and what isn't.

We try to plan for every eventuality, but there are still some things beyond our control. Please make sure you have access to an extra GBP£300 for emergencies (e.g. severe weather, natural disasters, civil unrest) or other events that result in unavoidable changes to the itinerary (e.g. transport strikes or cancellations, airport closures). Sometimes these things necessitate last-minute changes to enable our trips to continue to run, and as a result, there may be some extra costs involved.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD & TRANSPORT

About Accommodation

We only work with the best. YHA Australia is the most reputable hostel chain in the world and we include:
– 6 Nights at YHA Metro Melbourne
– 1 Night at YHA Phillip Island

This does mean multi-share accommodation, on a single-sex basis (typically 4-6 people per room), is likely to be the setup.

COUPLES: Please note that due to the types of accommodation used in Australia, couples will likely be split into separate beds where we use multi-share hostels. Pending availability, couples may be able to pay extra while on tour to have their own room in some destinations.

Meals:

Eating is a big part of travelling. Travelling with GoKo you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world.

Due to peoples dietary requirements, we have only included food inclusions on specific days.

Travellers with special dietary requirements or food allergies are required to advise us at the time of booking. If you do not inform us before departure date, it may be difficult to source special dietary requests.

You may be asked to pay for any additional food if you have not advised us of any special dietary requirements beforehand.

The below dietary can be easily catered for:.

Vegetarian

Gluten Free

Dairy Free (soy available )

Pork Free

Vegan

Please bring your own staples (nuts, bars, snacks) if you require a diet differing from the above.

Alcohol:

You will need to purchase any alcohol and other drinks separately unless otherwise highlighted in the itinerary.

Transport:

All transport is covered from start to finish.

SAFTEY:

Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure. We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safekeeping of your passport, air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items. Leave your valuable jewellery at home - you won't need it while travelling.

Hydration:

Daytime temperatures can be extreme from Oct to March with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. Please bring a large refillable water bottle. We strongly recommend the use of dehydration salts and sports drinks as a way to combat dehydration during times of extreme heat.

Beach Saftey:

Rip currents are the leading surf hazard for all beach users. They can occur at any beach, and can sweep even the strongest swimmer out to sea. Rip currents are responsible for around 15,000 beach rescues and cause multiple deaths each year.

To enjoy Australia's beaches safely, take the following simple precautions:

* Always swim between the red and yellow flags, as these indicate it is a supervised location where a lifesaving service is currently on duty.

* Do not swim at unsupervised locations and never swim alone.

* Observe and obey safety signage, which indicates current and typical hazards for that location.

* Ask a lifeguard or lifesaver for advice on conditions; they are there to make your experience safer and more enjoyable.

* If you get into trouble, stay calm and signal for help by calling and waving your arm above your head.

Be aware of your own limitations in terms of your physical health and your swimming ability in the given conditions. Never swim while, or after, consuming alcohol.

If you have any concerns about travelling to a particular country, most governments provide their own travel advice.

Here is a useful link regarding foreign travel: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

MEDICAL & HEALTH:

All GoKo travellers need to be in good physical health in order to participate fully on this trip. When selecting your trip please make sure you have read through the itinerary carefully and assess your ability to cope with our style of travel. Please note that if in the opinion of our tour leader / local guide, any traveller is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, GoKo Travel reserves the right to exclude them from all or part of a trip without refund.

Please note inoculations may be required for the country visited. It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up to date medical travel information well before departure. Information should be gathered round necessary vaccinations and anti-malarial requirements before departure.

We recommend that you carry a First Aid kit and hand sanitizers / antibacterial wipes as well as any personal medical requirements. For legal reasons, our leaders and guides are prohibited from administering any type of drugs including headache tablets and antibiotics. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared.

EMERGENCY CONTACT:

While we always endeavour to provide the best possible holiday experience, due to the nature of travel and the areas we visit sometimes things can and do go wrong. Should any issue occur while you are on your trip, it is imperative that you discuss this with your group guides or local representatives straight away so that they can do their best to rectify the problem and save any potential negative impact on the rest of your trip.

We recognise that there may be times when your group leader/ local partner may not be able to resolve a situation to your satisfaction - if this is the case, please ask the leader to speak to their direct manager.

You may also choose to provide details in your online feedback, which we ask you to complete within 30 days of the end of your trip. But we do ask you to be aware that it is very difficult for us to provide any practical help after the trip is complete

If for whatever reasons, you wish to contact GoKo directly regarding changes to your scheduled trip or make a complaint while you are already on your trip, or need to contact us in cases of an emergency, please use the following  details below:
