Are you ready for the challenge of a lifetime? Standing at a formidable 8,848m, the summit of Mount Everest offers the perfect backdrop for this trek of a lifetime. Starting in Lukla, your route will take you through Sherpa villages, past beautiful monasteries and over jaw-dropping suspension bridges until you reach the base camp of the world’s highest mountain. You’ll have the option to wonder at the scenery below the highest point of Kala Patthar before celebrating in mystical Kathmandu. Beginning in Lukla, follow the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay – the first climbers to ever summit Everest. Walking in the shadow of the world’s highest mountain, you will traverse gorges, visit the Everest Memorial Ground and trek through the Khumbu ice fall until you reach Base Camp. The higher you go, the harder the trek will become, pushing you and your body to the limit. However, the incredible views and support from fellow participants will spur you on to your goal. Arriving into Everest Base Camp will be a joyous occasion and one to saviour with your fellow trekkers. Upon your descent and flight back to Kathmandu, you can spend time exploring the chaotic, exotic and historic capital. Tour Itinerary


Welcome to Nepal! On landing in the capital, you’ll be welcomed by the local GoKo representative, who will transfer you straight to Kathmandu (approx. 3-4hrs). This evening, you will have a team dinner and briefing. This is the perfect opportunity for you to meet your fellow trekkers and ask any questions about your challenge ahead. After dinner, there will be time to prepare your trekking kit before getting an early night.
Today, your tour manager will come to meet you at the hotel at 10.00 AM. They will brief you again about the trip in detail, introduce you to your guide and provide you with all the correct documents. You will be free in the afternoon and manage your time for trek preparation. Our guide will meet you at your hotel at six o’ clock in the evening then take you for well come dinner which will consist of a traditional Nepali culture show. After having dinner, we will drop you at the hotel where you will spend your second night.
You will have an early start as you transfer to Kathmandu Airport where the adventure begins. The flight alone is an experience, so be sure to take in the scenery of towering, snow-capped mountains before you swoop dramatically onto the runway. After arriving, there’s a chance to pick up any last-minute kit and meet your Sherpa crew and Ghopkyos (a mix breed of yak and cow). After lunch, there’s a pleasant acclimatisation trek with a view of the Kusum-Kangru crossing at 6,369m. You will finish at Tok-Tok village where the camp will be set up for the night. Accommodation: Teahouse NB. This flight is weather dependent and can be subject to delay or cancellation. There are several acclimatisation/rest days built into the trip to allow for potential delays (up to three days). If flights are unable to take off after three days, we will implement an alternative trek itinerary.
As you leave Tok Tok this morning, you will cross the first suspension bridge of the trek, a truly breath-taking experience. You will follow the trail to Monjo, beneath the peak of Thermasarkhu (6,608m), and continue down the meandering path along the river. This is one of the hardest days of the trek, however, you are blessed with stunning mountain views and will even get your first glimpse of the great Everest peak. Lunch will be had at Jorsalle before you cross the double suspension bridge dubbed as “Hilary bridge”. Once you reach Namche Bazaar, you will spend the evening resting and walking around the lively town. Accommodation: Teahouse
With Everest now in sight, you'll have time to acclimatise by walking to the top of Namche Bazaar. There is an optional walk to the Everest View Hotel, which boasts sweeping panoramic views. Alternatively, you can head to the Sherpa Culture museum to learn more about the region’s fascinating mountaineering history. You will spend another night camping in Namche Bazaar, ready to continue trekking in the morning. Accommodation: Teahouse
This morning follows the winding trail from Namche Bazaar, with exceptional views of Everest. From Shanasa, descend into Phungitenga (3,250m) a pretty settlement in the midst of alpine woods before taking on a tough ascent to Tengboche (3,867m). With its monastery and stunning views, Tengboche is arguably one of the most beautiful sites in the Himalayas. Continue along the trail to Deboche (3,800m) where you will spend the night in the shadow of the Ama Dablam peak. Accommodation: Teahouse
Leaving Deboche, your route follows the long Prayer Mani Wall up towards Shomare. The altitude may start to take its toll as you climb higher above the Imjatse River. However, from here it’s a lovely descent into the Imjatse Valley and the shadows of the Nuptse, Lohtse and Ama Dablam mountains. The village of Dingboche is where you will rest your weary legs for the night overlooking a patchwork of fields. Accommodation: Teahouse
Today is another acclimatisation day. It is the perfect opportunity to explore the monastery and admire the incredible vistas from the ridge over Dingboche and the Imja Khola tributary. Spend the afternoon drinking tea in a coffee shop and resting up for the days ahead. Accommodation: Teahouse
Heading north, the trek follows the path above the village of Pheriche towards Thukla for lunch. The colourful memorial ground of fluttering prayer flags and monuments are dedicated to climbers who have lost their lives whilst mountaineering. It also serves as a reminder of how challenging the natural environment can be, so be sure to take a moment to appreciate your achievement so far. From here you have unrivalled views of Mt. Pumori and other peaks west of Everest. This is a good spot for a short break before continuing on for another 1½-2hrs up to Loboche. Accommodation: Teahouse
Set off on a rocky moraine path and climb above the glacial pond and icebergs of the Khumbu Glacier. After the last rocky moraine dunes, a short downhill walk brings you to the town of Gorakshep, below Kalapatthar (5,545m) and Mt. Pumori (7,145m). Gorakshep, famous for being Sir Edmund Hillary’s base camp during his expedition to Mt. Everest in the 1950s, is your home for the night. Accommodation: Camping
Today is the day - the finale of your trek to Everest Base Camp. The high altitude and difficult terrain makes the trekking a lot more strenuous, but the lively commotion from Everest Base Camp will help to spur you on. Celebrate with friends old and new as you reach Everest Base Camp, making sure to take plenty of photos to document your achievement. You will then head back to Gorakshep to sleep for the night. Although optional, the steep hike to Kalapatthar is well worth it and is often considered one of the highlights of the trek. At Base Camp, the summit of Everest is hidden from view. From the top of Kalapatthar, however, you will be rewarded with breath-taking views of Everest’s peak. Now it is time to start the descent back down to Lukla, beginning with an overnight stay in Pheriche 4,245m. Accommodation: Teahouse
The return journey will take you through the village of Pangboche, as you continue back along the Imja-Tse gorge and up to Tyangboche. The village of Kanguma is home for the night. Accommodation: Teahouse
The morning climb from Kanguma is steep, pushing weary legs through pine forests and valleys towards Namche Bazaar. Enjoy lunch here, the largest Himalayan village, before continuing along the path towards Monjo and your campsite for the evening. Accommodation: Teahouse
The last day of walking is pleasant, following the Bhote Kushi River towards the village of Phakding, before embarking on the final stretch of your journey. It’s one last push to tackle the 45-minute uphill climb to Lukla where you will be staying in a traditional teahouse. Now it’s time to revel in your success with a hard-earned celebration meal and an evening spent sharing memories. Accommodation: Teahouse
Bid farewell to Lukla and the magic of the Himalayas. Touching down in Kathmandu, you'll transfer back to Hotel, where a delicious celebration meal will await you. Accommodation: Hotel
Today is dedicated to exploring the wonders of the magical city of Kathmandu. You will have time to visit its many temples and monasteries, mingle with the monkeys at Swayambhunath Temple or go for a stroll through the Garden of Dreams. Don’t forget to pick up some prayer flags before you head back to the hotel for your last supper together

HOW TO FUND YOUR CHALLENGE

To get started on your challenge, you’ll need to pay your registration fee and pick your payment plan. You can choose to fundraise or self-fund your trip. Please contact us to get started.

There are 2 different fundraising options for you to choose from:

1. Self-Funding Option: 

You can choose to self-fund this trip if you like. Whichever funding plan you choose (either Self-Fund or Minimum Sponsorship), a registration fee is  required. For the self-fund option, this will be due at sign-up.  The self-funding option does not require participants to reach a “target figure”. The Individual, group or corporate team would simply set out to raise as much money as possible for the cause.This option takes pressure off hitting an exact "target amount" and all money raised (regardless of how much), would be sent directly to the charity a few weeks before the trip.

2. Minimum Sponsorship Option: 

To get started on your challenge, you’ll need to pay your registration fee and  then  fundraise  on  behalf  of  your  chosen  charity.

When taking on a challenge with us,  we  promise  full  transparency,  therefore,  you  can  be rest assured that all of the money that you fundraise throughout the year will go directly through to the charity that you choose  to support. Once you hit that fundraising target and your place on the challenge is confirmed, your charity will use this money to cover the remaining costs of your challenge. All of our challenges operate on a minimum 50:50 cost ratio and 100% of any Gift Aid or money that you raise above your fundraising target will stay with your charity.

The  remaining  balance   of  the  trip  will  be  due 56 days  (8  weeks)  prior  to  the  event.  

With the minimum sponsorship option, we suggest 2 different fundraising options:


Option 1: Independent Fundraising - Here, it would be the responsibility of the individual participant to raise money for a cause. It would be their job to agree a “target figure” (amount) with their chosen charity and would be their obligation to collect all funds no later than 56 days prior to the tour start date. Of course, GoKo will point all individuals in the right direction and will even help set up fundraising pages with the charity. 

Option 2: Collective Fundraising - Here, all participants will work together to reach a “target figure” as a team. For example, if a group of 20 people signed up to an agreed challenge, all participants would collectively aim to reach the target figure agreed upon as a whole. 

This option takes pressure off the individual and allows the group to work together to reach the agreed target. Here, the 56-day cut-off would still apply.

FAQ'S

Is the challenge safe?: 

All of our challenge events involve an element of risk (that’s what makes them challenging!) but we work closely with our partners in Nepal to ensure that your trip is memorable for all the right reasons. We risk assess all our trips and we comply to the  British  Standard of trekking.

Who will be with us in Nepal?

We only  use English speaking guides  that  we  have  used  ourselves  and who have years of experience of guiding  in  theregion. They will not only be there to ensure that you are healthy, safe and well looked after, they’ll also be more than happy to give you a real insight into the culture and traditions of Nepal.  Whats  more,  a  member  of  our  UK  Team  will  always  be  present  on  the  trip  to  ensure  a  feeling  of  familiarity,  safety  and  security. 

Will I get altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness symptoms occur when the rate of ascent into higher altitudes is too quickly that the body doesn’t get time to acclimatise. Altitude sickness generally develops at elevations higher than  2,400 meters  above sea level.  The most  common  cause  of  altitude sickness  is  ascending too quickly,  therefore, the  main way to avoid altitude sickness is allowing the body to get used to the altitude slowly (Acclimatisation). Remember, this  is  not  a  race  -  look  up  and  smell  the  roses!

Our  professional  guides  will  be  monitoring  you  constantly,  therefore,  symptom checks  will  be  regular . It  isimportant to be aware of the normal altitude symptoms that you may encounter,  so please familiarise yourself with signs and symptoms before you depart and be  very  vocal  about your own health during your trek.

If you are feeling nauseous, dizzy or experience other symptoms, please be sure to let your local guide know immediately so that we can monitor your condition.

Will I get support from the chairty for my fundraising?

Absolutely! Whilst it is of course your responsibility to reach your fundraising target, all of our partner charities have staff dedicated to supporting participants taking part in  the  events.  Whats  more,  the  GoKo  team  will  do  everything  they  can  to  help  you  reach  your  target  figure.

Do  I  need  insurance  for  my  trip?

Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our trips and we recommend that participants take this out as soon as possible. You are free to choose a policy that suits your needs which includes cover for all activities featured as part of your trip and depending on your challenge. All policies chosen should cover you for trekking at altitude and helicopter evacuation.

How  fit  do  I  need  to  be  and  do I need  to  train?

The short answer is: a basic level of fitness and good health is needed and training is highly recommended. However, you do not need to be a professional athlete or marathon runner. What is going to get you to the end of your challenge is a mental and emotional commitment to the cause. As long as you set time aside to prepare for the challenge ahead, success will be on your side! All of our challenges are designed to be demanding, otherwise, you wouldn't really be earning your sponsorship money. Fitness training notes will be  sent  to  you  upon  booking and we recommend you spend a few months before your trip getting fit and building up stamina.

Is there any specialist equipment I need?

Once signed up, you will receive a full kit list. The most important items are waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, 35L  min. rucksack, a functioning head torch and well broken-in walking boots.

What if I can't complete the challenge?

We will do our best to support you on your challenge. If you need to cut  your  challenge  short  due  to  poor  fitness  orinjury,  our team will be able to assist. Although  injuries  are  something  unavoidable,  being  underprepared  is  not! Please take  time  to  train  before  embarking  on  any  of  our  trips.

What if I get injured during the challenge?

Any outdoor activity carries a certain level of risk. Your guides are fully qualified including in mountain guiding and first aid. The mountain leader is there to ensure your safety and it is your responsibility to listen to their instructions. You will also be assisted by at least one member of staff.

What will the weather be like? 

Weather in the Himalayas can be very changeable due to the nature of the surrounding terrain. When it does rain, it can be heavy and last for several hours. As you reach Everest Base Camp itself, the altitude leads to a sharp drop in temperatures, particularly at night. Kathmandu enjoys a subtropical climate (around 25 degrees celsius during the day) but there can be heavy downpours during the humid summer months.

Cash:
Before departing on your trek, make sure you have enough Nepalese currency to purchase extra meals and drinks during the trek. There are no ATM's so make sure you have enough and try to change all your  NPR1000 notes into smaller notes before the trek begins.

Conservative Dress:
> Modest clothing that covers knees and shoulders (Long pants, long skirts, shirts that cover shoulders)
> Shawl or scarf (for temple visits)

Final Notes: 
The best clothing for trekking is either wool or synthetic materials in layers, as this is quick-drying and can keep heat in better. We suggest a base-layer, then a mid-layer such as a light fleece jacket or similar, then a windproof and waterproof layer.

Fitness and other recommendations:

For those wanting to complete the highly popular Everest Base Camp Trek, trekkers need above average physical fitness, strong mental endurance and ability to trek for around 5-6 hours on rough terrain. With a carefully designed itinerary, professional and quality service, it is without a doubt this will be an experience of a lifetime.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Weather conditions in the Himalayas can change rapidly and your designated tour leader may be forced to change the trip itinerary accordingly. Travellers need to be prepared for all weather conditions. For more information please read the "what to take" section of this trip notes. 

While our itineraries are designed to allow for adequate acclimatization you are likely to feel the effects of altitude sickness and oxygen deprivation whilst on this trek. Please be aware that your tour leader may deem it unsafe for you to continue trekking at any time, and arrange for you to descend to a lower altitude.

In the Himalayas weather can cancel or delay the scheduled flight(s) to/from Lukla airport. To be sure that you make your trek, or return from it, it may be necessary to make this flight by a chartered helicopter. Helicopters can operate in some weather that aircraft cannot. Should a helicopter be needed, it will be at the expense of the travellers, and not something covered by GoKo Travels. Please keep approximately USD 500 (one way) accessible in case this situation presents itself. This suggested amount is in addition to the emergency fund suggested below. 

Hopefully, weather delays will not occur, or if they do it will be for a limited time. Should the delays stretch into days and neither helicopter nor flight are a viable option, a collective decision will be made by the group on how to proceed. This is especially true if the delays are prior to the trek, as the original trek may no longer be feasible. Your Tour leader will be there to help with this process.

Arrival Complications

We don't expect any problems, and nor should you, but if for any reason you are unable to commence your trip as scheduled, as soon as possible please contact GoKo Travels or your Tour leader on the numbers provided in the contact selection of this document (bottom).
 
If you are unable to get in touch with GoKo, please refer to our emergency contact details. 

You do not need to pre-booked an airport transfer, as your tour leader will collect you from outside the airport and will take you to your Starting Point hotel.

PASSPORTS & VISAS

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveller. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it's important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. 

All foreign nationals (except Indian passport holders) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad, land borders (including borders with India & Tibet) and on arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan Airport. Getting a visa at the airport or land borders can take time due to long queues. There have been instances when travellers are asked to show proof of exit from the country, ie flight tickets- although this is uncommon. You will also need to provide one passport photo and payment should be made in US dollars (Other currencies are also accepted but rates will differ).

** Note: Please ensure the name on your passport matches the name on your booking and airline tickets. Your passport details are required to complete your booking. Take a copy of the main passport pages and other important documents with you, and leave another copy at home with family or friends.

Please Note: Your visa application form may require you to state the dates on which you enter and exit the country. GoKo recommends that you list your date of entry a few days before, and date of exit a few days after your intended dates in case you encounter any delays or problems en route.

FLIGHTS & TRAVEL INSURANCE 

GoKo Travels doesn't currently have the facilities to book your external/international flights. Therefore, you will have to prearrange your own flights to the required destination. We are always looking to improve our services, therefore, are planning to implement this solution as soon as possible.  

Travel insurance:

Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your Tour leader, who will take note of your insurance details and emergency contact number. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

MONEY

Money Exchange:

As currency exchange rates in Asia fluctuate often we ask that you refer to the following website for daily exchange rates: www.xe.com.  There are many ATM machines that accept both Visa and Mastercard but these are limited to Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar. Major credit cards are accepted in most shops but they may charge a 2-4% transaction fee.

The official currency of Nepal is the Nepali rupee (NPR). Its symbol is often displayed as Rs. USD are also widely accepted in Nepal. ATMs can only be found in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Bhaktapur. Make sure you carry sufficient cash to cover your needs when travelling outside of these cities. 

The Government of Nepal has banned the import, export and use of 500 and 1000 Indian rupee notes in Nepal. You should ensure you are not carrying these notes on arrival in Nepal as they will be confiscated and you may be fined.

Contingency Funds:

Make sure you've read your trip details thoroughly so you know what's included in the trip price and what isn't.
We try to plan for every eventuality, but there are still some things beyond our control. Please make sure you have access to an extra US$500 for emergencies (e.g. severe weather, natural disasters, civil unrest) or other events that result in unavoidable changes to the itinerary (e.g. transport strikes or cancellations, airport closures). Sometimes these things necessitate last-minute changes to enable our trips to continue to run, and as a result, there may be some extra costs involved.

ACCOMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT:

About Accommodation
A tea house is the combination of guest house, restaurant, and social hang out. Private rooms are available in most tea houses, except for high altitudes ones where it will be just dormitories. The lodges are fairly basic and the rooms are small with twin beds. Blankets are generally provided, while most bathrooms are shared and toilets will either be squat or western style. 
The majority of tea houses only have cold showers, however, a few  may have hot water available at an additional cost. Nonetheless, we discourage groups from using water heated by wood, as lack of firewood in villages is a big environmental concern in Nepal. 
There is a large dining room / communal-lounge, warmed by the Bukhara stove (an iron cylinder, fitted with a chimney duct, in which a log fire is lighted). You will spend most your evenings in here.


There is normally no electric lighting in the bedrooms unless the village has hydroelectric power. 
Some tea houses now also have electricity for charging small appliances - mobile phones and cameras - and there may be a small charge for this.

MEALS:

Eating is a big part of travelling. Travelling with GoKo you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally, 3 meals a day is included in all of our trekking prices. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though and you will still have your own choice from the menus provided.

During a tea house stay, you will be given breakfast and dinner, while lunch will be eaten at one of the trail side restaurants. Every tea house serves the traditional Nepali meal Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), as well as a variety of different food items, such as rice, vegetables, noodles, potatoes and soup. Some have a Nepali version of western food such as pizza, pasta and french fries. Soft drinks, snacks and beer are available in most of the tea houses and trail side restaurants. Vegetarians will be able to find a range of different foods.
In Kathmandu and Pokhara there are plenty of restaurants and cafes for all tastes and budgets.

ALCOHOL & CAFFEINE:

Alcohol and trekking don't mix. We highly recommend that you limit your alcohol consumption in Kathmandu prior to your trip. Celebrate your achievements after your trek. Both alcohol and caffeine increase dehydration. Limit your intake of both when hiking at high altitudes.

Local Flights
All local flights are included in the cost of your tour unless otherwise noted. It is important that we have your passport information at the time of booking in order to process these tickets. Internal flight tickets are issued locally and will be given to you prior to the flight departure.
Flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are often delayed due to poor weather and there have been occasions when groups have had to have their treks rescheduled. Your local leader will give you the most up to date information regarding delays to flights. Domestic flights in Nepal have strict weight limits - 10kg of check-in luggage and 5kg of carry-on hand luggage per person is included with your flight ticket. Excess baggage (up to 5kg per person only) will be charged at your own expense.

Nepal's only international airport, Tribhuvan International Airport, has a single runway that services both domestic and international flights. Cancellations and delays are frequent, especially during peak tourist seasons or in poor weather. SAFTEY:

Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure. We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safekeeping of your passport, air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items. Leave your valuable jewellery at home - you won't need it while travelling.

STRIKES & CRIME:

Demonstrations and protests are common in Nepal, with strikes regularly occurring that may result in curfews or roadblocks being enforced at short notice. At these times, businesses may close and vehicles may not be allowed on the roads. You should avoid any demonstrations or political gatherings and follow local advice, including that of your leader in the event of any disruptions. 

Although crime is relatively low, pickpocketing and other petty theft are common, especially in places where tourists or foreigners frequent. Avoid walking on your own and don’t carry large sums of cash. Keep valuables in a hotel safe if possible. Bars and restaurants now close at midnight as part of a government crackdown on illegal activities. Police have increased their presence in Thamel and Durbar, Marg, popular tourist districts in Kathmandu, in an effort to reduce crime in these areas. You should seek out police if you have been robbed or affected by any crime.

FESTIVALS:

Travelling in Nepal during Holi Festival (1-2 March 2018, 20-21 March 2019, 9-10 March 2020), can at times be dangerous due to large consumption of intoxicating substances.  Although this is a once in a lifetime festival, it is often associated with physical violence and danger in some parts of the city. Your guides will advise you and your group on what places to avoid on this day.

Travelling during the Hindu festival Diwali (7 November 2018, 27 October 2019, 14 November 2020) can also be dangerous. During  this time there are many displays of fireworks in the streets. It can be very noisy for several days and there is also a lot of pollution caused by the fireworks. As there are no restrictions on buying fireworks there are often injuries caused by people exploding them inappropriately.  Ask your guide about safety options here and if you feel uncomfortable we can alter your itinerary too best suit your needs.

MEDICAL & HEALTH:

Please be aware that sometimes we are in remote areas and away from medical facilities. In Asia pharmacies tend to stock the same western drugs as you get at home but they are usually produced locally, so please bring the full drug name with you when trying to purchase a prescription drug. When selecting your trip please carefully read the brochure and itinerary and assess your ability to cope with our style of travel. 

All GoKo travellers need to be in good physical health in order to participate fully on this trip. When selecting your trip please make sure you have read through the itinerary carefully and assess your ability to cope with our style of travel. Please note that if in the opinion of our tour leader / local guide, any traveller is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, GoKo Travel reserves the right to exclude them from all or part of a trip without refund.

Please note inoculations may be required for the country visited. It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up to date medical travel information well before departure. Information should be gathered round necessary vaccinations and anti-malarial requirements before departure.
We recommend that you carry a First Aid kit and hand sanitizers / antibacterial wipes as well as any personal medical requirements. For legal reasons, our leaders and guides are prohibited from administering any type of drugs including headache tablets and antibiotics. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared.

ALTITUDE SICKNESS:

Travellers to altitudes higher than 2,500m are at risk of altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS). This can be life-threatening and affect anyone, even people who are very physically fit. There is a risk for those who have had altitude sickness before, who exercise or drink alcohol before adjusting to the altitude, or who have health problems that affect breathing. If your tour travels to high altitude, see your doctor for advice specific to you and your situation before you depart. It is important to be aware of the normal altitude symptoms that you may encounter.

Altitude sickness is a risk in all of the following treks: Annapurna, Langtang and Everest Base Camp. Please make sure you familiarise yourself with signs and symptoms before you depart and monitor your own health during your trek.


BUT you to do NOT have to worry about:
- Periods of sleeplessness
- Occasional loss of appetite
- Vivid, wild dreams at around 2500-3800m in altitude
- Unexpected momentary shortness of breath, day and night

- Periodic breathing that wakes you occasionally
- Blocked nose
- Dry cough
- Mild headache


If you are feeling nauseous, dizzy or experience other symptoms, please be sure to let your local guide know immediately so that we can monitor your condition.

Medical facilities in Nepal are very limited, particularly outside Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, treatment at international-standard clinics is expensive and up-front payment for services is generally required. Make sure you have adequate travel health insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment, including evacuation by helicopter.
