The Welsh 3000 challenge will take your hiking to the next level, as you conquer 15 mountains and ascend over 4000 metres in just 3 days. This is one incredible adventure to test yourself against, and will undoubtedly push you to your limits.
If you have completed a number of challenges before and are looking for your next adventure, then this is the mountain challenge for you. This exhilarating, extremely challenging and hugely rewarding climb will have you trekking over the highest mountains in Wales, including Snowdon, Carneddau, Glyders and Devils Kitchen.
Our Welsh 15 Peaks challenge’s are run with very experienced local mountain leaders and en-route they will begin to teach you are few new skills such as map reading and compass bearing.
Please note that the terrain is extremely varied, and involves some steep ascents and descents, long distances and little sleep. A challenge suitable for those who are physically fit and who are already experienced walkers.
To get started on your challenge, you’ll need to pay your registration fee and pick your payment plan. You can choose to fundraise or self-fund your trip. Please contact us to get started.
There are 2 different fundraising options for you to choose from:
1. Self-Funding Option:
You can choose to self-fund this trip if you like. Whichever funding plan you choose (either Self-Fund or Minimum Sponsorship), a registration fee is required. For the self-fund option, this will be due at sign-up. The self-funding option does not require participants to reach a “target figure”. The Individual, group or corporate team would simply set out to raise as much money as possible for the cause. This option takes pressure off hitting an exact "target amount" and all money raised (regardless of how much), would be sent directly to the charity a few weeks before the trip.
2. Minimum Sponsorship Option:
To get started on your challenge, you’ll need to pay your registration fee and then fundraise on behalf of your chosen charity.
When taking on a challenge with us, we promise full transparency, therefore, you can be rest assured that all of the money that you fundraise throughout the year will go directly through to the charity that you choose to support. Once you hit that fundraising target and your place on the challenge is confirmed, your charity will use this money to cover the remaining costs of your challenge. All of our challenges operate on a minimum 50:50 cost ratio and 100% of any Gift Aid or money that you raise above your fundraising target will stay with your charity.
The remaining balance of the trip will be due 56 days (8 weeks) prior to the event.
With the minimum sponsorship option, we suggest 2 different fundraising options:
Option 1: Independent Fundraising - Here, it would be the responsibility of the individual participant to raise money for a cause. It would be their job to agree a “target figure” (amount) with their chosen charity and would be their obligation to collect all funds no later than 56 days prior to the tour start date. Of course, GoKo will point all individuals in the right direction and will even help set up fundraising pages with the charity.
Option 2: Collective Fundraising - Here, all participants will work together to reach a “target figure” as a team. For example, if a group of 20 people signed up to an agreed challenge, all participants would collectively aim to reach the target figure agreed upon as a whole.
This option takes pressure off the individual and allows the group to work together to reach the agreed target. Here, the 56-day cut-off would still apply.
If you want to route to include the ridge of Crib Goch (Grade 1 scramble - a narrow, knife edged ridge that leads up to the summit of Mt Snowdon), please let us know at time of booking. However, this route will only be accepted if you have had prior scrambling experience.

Your day will begin on Friday morning with your full safety briefing with your leaders. Then you’re off. The challenge itself will commence at approximately 11am on the Friday and you can expect to have completed all 15 peaks by 5pm on Sunday afternoon.
We grade this challenge as: Extreme. This is a real mountain challenge and lays claims as the hardest in the UK. This challenge is perfect for participants who have previous experience of taking part in challenge events of this magnitude or those looking for something more challenging after having completed the National 3 Peaks challenge.
On the Welsh 3000s Challenge you can expect:
• Trekking approximately 45km, over 3 days of walking, approximately 8-10 hours each day (a little less on the last day)
• Early mornings, getting you out on the hill by 7am at the latest.
• Ascend over 4000m over 3 days, that is more ascent than climbing Kilimanjaro!
A full equipment list will be sent to you at time of booking.
Two nights of accommodation are provided in a local hostel within Snowdonia National Park. You will most likley be staying in mixed-sex dorms, unless requested otherwise.
the weather in the UK can be highly unpredictable and at times erratic, so being prepared is the key! As with all mountains, the weather while on the mountains can change very quickly, so what can start out as a good day can soon become very poor. It is very important to be well equipped and prepared for all conditions. We will be crossing terrain varying from moorland to lose rocky ground. A full list of equipment will be sent you to on request or at time of booking.
We employ experienced and fully qualified Mountain Leaders to accompany and lead you throughout the trip. A member of the GoKo team will also always be present from start to finish.
You will need to train beforehand. We reccomend completing at several test weekend of walking around eight hours per day for two days. Most training should be part of an ongoing lifestyle, but if this is not the case then you should begin training 4 months prior to the challenge and gradually build up the level of difficulty.
This challenge is both a mental and physical challenge. You will need to train beforehand; it is unrealistic to expect to complete the challenge without some training. If you have a health condition you should consult your doctor before taking part.
During the challenge days there will be no opportunity to purchase snacks. There might be the opportunity to purchase food and drink at the end of the challenge days and so you may wish to take some money with you but we would advise you should need no more than £20.00 per day.
Insurance is neccesary on all of our trips. We will provide you with links at time of booking.
You will be sent precise timings and locations 1 month prior to the start of this challenge. However, please note that you need to arrive at the designated hostel (at the base of Snowdonia National Park) for approximately 10am on day 1.
