From here, fly to Sumba, an island of ancestral villages, sacred traditions, empty coastlines, turquoise lagoons, waterfalls, and wild surf breaks, where life moves to a slower and far more elemental rhythm. Travel across East, Central, and West Sumba, discovering local markets, ikat weaving, Marapu heritage, dramatic landscapes, and rugged shores before ending with a few days of surf and complete relaxation in Kodi.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Jakarta
Arrive into Jakarta, where you will be met at the airport and privately transferred into the city. The drive offers your first glimpse of Indonesia’s energetic capital, with its skyline, expressways, and vibrant urban rhythm.
Once checked in, the rest of the day is left free to settle in and ease into the journey. Jakarta offers a striking first contrast to what is to come later in Sumba — a sprawling and dynamic city where colonial heritage, modern towers, neighbourhood cafés, and lively street life all sit side by side. It is an exciting and colourful introduction to Indonesia.
Day 2
Batik Workshop & Jakarta Street Food
This morning, immerse yourself in one of Indonesia’s most iconic artistic traditions with a hands-on batik workshop at Rumah Batik Palbatu in South Jakarta. Guided by local artisans, you will learn about the symbolism, tools, and techniques behind this centuries-old craft before creating your own piece using wax and dye.
Later, head out on a private afternoon and evening market and street food tour. Exploring areas such as Chinatown and Fatahillah Square, you will sample a wide range of local dishes and drinks while learning more about Jakarta’s multicultural food culture, neighbourhood life, and culinary heritage. It is a wonderfully immersive day that blends creativity, culture, and flavour in equal measure.
Day 3
Fly to Sumba
Today, leave the city behind and fly to Sumba, one of Indonesia’s most untouched and atmospheric islands. On arrival in Waingapu, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel in East Sumba.
The remainder of the day is intentionally left relaxed, giving you time to settle in and adjust to the slower rhythm of the island. This is your first chance to take in Sumba’s raw beauty, wide-open landscapes, and peaceful atmosphere before the deeper exploration begins.
Day 4
East Sumba Culture & Coastline
Today begins with a scenic westward drive from Waingapu towards Wera, offering a beautiful introduction to East Sumba’s landscapes and traditions. Along the way, stop at Matawai local market, where stalls brim with produce, spices, textiles, and everyday goods, providing an authentic glimpse into daily island life.
Continue to Prailiu Village, known for its rich cultural heritage and its preservation of traditional ikat weaving. Here, you will learn more about weaving techniques, visit a traditional home, and gain insight into Marapu, Sumba’s indigenous belief system, which still shapes the island’s architecture, rituals, and community life. Later, visit Walakiri Beach, famous for its white sands, shallow water, and beautiful mangrove-lined shoreline, before continuing to your beachfront resort to relax by the sea.
Day 5
Free Day of Leisure on the East Coast
Today is left entirely free for you to slow down and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of East Sumba. From your base on the coast, you can spend the day exactly as you please — whether that means a beach walk, a swim, pool time, or simply doing very little at all.
If you would like something light, there is the option for a gentle nearby outing, such as a short village visit or scenic coastal drive, but the main intention of the day is rest. It is a welcome pause before continuing your journey deeper across the island
Day 6
Waterfalls & Cultural Heritage
After breakfast, set out westward through the heart of Sumba, travelling across remote villages and ever-changing interior landscapes towards the area around Waikabubak. The journey itself is part of the experience, offering insight into rural island life and the vast, open scenery that makes Sumba feel so distinctive.
Your main natural highlight today is Lapopu Waterfall, one of the island’s most beautiful cascades. Reached via a short walk and bamboo bridge, the waterfall is surrounded by peaceful jungle scenery and offers time to relax or swim in its turquoise pools. Later, continue to Praijing Village, where traditional thatched-roof homes and ancient stone tombs reveal more of Sumba’s ancestral traditions and enduring cultural identity.
Day 7
Ratenggaro Village & Waikuri Lake
Today is dedicated to West Sumba’s dramatic landscapes and living heritage. Begin with a visit to Ratenggaro Village, one of the island’s most striking traditional settlements, set near the coast and known for its towering thatched-roof houses and ancient stone tombs.
From here, continue to Waikuri Lake, a beautiful saltwater lagoon enclosed by limestone cliffs. Its clear turquoise water offers a peaceful and refreshing stop, whether for a swim or simply to enjoy the scenery. Afterward, transfer to your hotel in West Sumba, where the rest of the day is free to unwind and enjoy the island’s quieter western side.
Day 8
Surf & Settle into Kodi
Today is all about slowing down and settling into the rhythm of Kodi on Sumba’s wild southwest coast. Spend the morning relaxing at the beach or by the pool, then head out for a surf session if conditions are right.
This stretch of coast is known for its rugged beauty and uncrowded surf, though the exact break you visit will depend on daily conditions. Kodi works best as a flexible surf base, where the guide can choose the best spot according to swell, tide, and your level. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy long lunches, massage time, sunset walks, or simply the stillness of this remote coastline
Day 9
Another Surf Day or Full Relaxation
Today offers one more full day in Kodi to use exactly as you wish. If you are keen to surf again, you can head out for another session, perhaps trying a different break depending on the conditions.
Alternatively, keep the day completely slow and restorative. Spend it reading by the pool, enjoying spa time, taking a gentle coastal stroll, or visiting a nearby village before ending with a laid-back sunset by the ocean. It is a fitting final full day in Sumba, shaped entirely around your preferred pace.
Day 10
Departure via Jakarta
Today, depart Sumba and begin your journey back to Jakarta. Your transfer will take you to Tambolaka Airport, approximately 50 km from the resort, with the drive usually taking around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on road conditions.
From there, continue your onward flight back to Jakarta, with direct routes sometimes available but often operated as one-stop routings via another Indonesian hub. This brings your Indonesian journey to a close, ending a trip that has blended vibrant city culture, traditional artistry, ancestral island heritage, remote coastlines, and wild surf.

Passports & Visas
The Traveller (you) is responsible for ensuring that you have the appropriate visas, travel permits, and certificates for the countries they are traveling in, and that your passport is valid for six months beyond the duration of the Trip. GoKo Travels is not responsible if a customer is refused entry to a country because of incorrect travel documentation.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory for all travellers and it’s the responsibility of the customer to ensure that adequate coverage is purchased. Travel insurance must cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses, and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We strongly recommend it also covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability, loss of luggage, and personal effects. If customers do not have travel insurance, they may be prevented from joining the Trip.
