Location:

Located near the gorgeous town of Dickoya, sits the Castlereagh Valley. This stunning valley, which is noted for its breathtaking scenery of deep greens and blues, stands out as a country landmark. At its heart is a mirror-still reservoir dotted with islands that floods seven kilometers of a long, deep valley.

On either side of the Castlereagh Reservoir are steep, rocky hillsides covered with neatly kept tea plantations topped by dense manes of trees. The views from the bungalow, whether it's bright or overcast, are always breathtaking.

At 1,200 meters, the bustling town of Dickoya has a colonial-era clubhouse, the Castlereaghm, a Cricket Club (formerly the Daramulla Club) and the Warleigh Church -- a tiny British-era lake-facing chapel with a graveyard strewn with tombstones inscribed in European names; testament to the region's colonial history when European planters migrated across seas to create a future in Ceylon Tea.

The nearest railway station to Camellia Hills is Hatton, a busy provincial town with a lively local market. Rail travel is one of the best and most convenient methods to explore and get around in the Hill Country. Alternatively, however, you can swoop in on a seaplane, land in Castlereagh Reservoir, and be transported up to your private bungalow along the tea lined estate roads.

Overview:

Camellia Hills offers just five timber-floored rooms, each overlooking the Castlereagh Reservoir or the lush surrounding hills which can be seem through the picture windows or large terraces.

Each room is distinctive in design and layout, yet equally pleasant and luxurious. The two Camellia Bedrooms are the cosiest, while the three bigger Lakeview Rooms boast panoramic views of the whole Castlereagh Valley from private furnished terraces with no other building in site.

Bedrooms are generally reserved individually, however the boutique bungalow is big enough for groups and families wanting privacy to use the whole house exclusively.

Other Experiences:

The curated Castlereagh and Hatton experiences showcase the rich complexities of this colourful region, which was once characterised by Sri Lanka's historic tea industry.

A drive along the valley's edge, to a colonial-era tea factory where you can view the age-old art of tea production, is an absolute must. The bungalow is located among acres of pea-green tea bushes and a tour of them leads to a 19th-century teahouse where you may see how it all works.

The fresh mountain climate is a dream come true for outdoor enthusiasts. Trails through neighbouring tea plantations, thick forests, and roaring waterfalls provide stunning views at every turn. The islands on the reservoir proffer epic picnic potential, and you can island hop by boat, or voyage along the banks of the reservoir to colonial-era Warleigh Church.

If requested, the GoKo Carbon Offsetting scheme does not focus on just planting trees, but rather the purchasing, persevering and protecting standing forests from deforestation and degradation - helping revive forests back to full health and avoiding the release of stored carbon. This also enables the regeneration of degraded habitats, which gradually re-absorb atmospheric CO2.
