Voted the World Leading Destination in 2018, Portugal is a country that has it all. From golden beaches, dramatic landscapes and rolling vineyards, to cobblestone villages, medieval castles and bustling cities, Portugal is an unspoiled pocket of heaven.
Sitting on the shorelines of the great Atlantic Ocean, Portugal owes much of its charm and culture to the sea. The powerful empires that once ruled these lands - from the great coastal cities of Porto and Lisbon, all the way down to Algarve - have now left behind an abundance of history, cultural traditions and architectural treasures.
Aside from its rich and complex history, Portugal is home to a bounty of dramatic landscapes, world-class beaches and secluded monasteries. For the adventurer, a journey through Geres National park is a must, as you find yourself stumbling across waterfalls, pines forests and medieval bridges. What’s more, the stunning Douro Valley is laced with superlative vineyards, producing some of the world’s most famous wines. The Douro region also offers an incredible variety of hiking and kayaking opportunities.
Finally, don’t forget to indulge in the countries culinary delights. The Portuguese gastronomy is hugely appreciated, and home to the famed Pastéis de Nata ~ Portuguese Custard Tarts. Explore the medieval streets of both Lisbon and Porto and fall in love with the charming wine bars, lively plazas and friendly locals.
