Uganda

The Pearl of Africa! Despite its size, Uganda really does pack an impressive punch - boasting the River Nile, the 'Big 5', Chimpanzees and incredibly rare mountain Gorillas.

Despite being a relatively small country, Uganda (boarding Central and East Africa) is half Savannah, half rainforest, and offers an abundance of gorgeous landscapes, unbeatable wildlife and welcoming locals. This fascinating country is both home to Africa's tallest mountain range (the Rwenzoris) and the source of the Nile - the world's longest river and the continent's largest lake.

Most importantly, however, Uganda is famed for offering visitors the chance to encounter wild mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in their misty natural habitat.

White water raft down the river Nile, swim through majestic waterfalls surrounding Lake Bunyonyi, see the Big-Five while on a game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park, or watch monkeys swing from trees and brush past your shoulders in breathtaking encounters.

Our Personal Travel Experts know Uganda really well. If you want to find out more about their gorilla treking experiences or incredible game drives, get in touch with one of our experts and we will help.

Fact Sheet

When to Travel

Although Uganda is beautiful all year round, the best time to go is during the dry season which is June to August and December to February.

Luckily, the rainforest remains wet during these dry months (which is ideal for gorilla trekking), and offers the best chance to spot wildlife in the savannah, as almost all animals are on the hunt for water.

Visa

If you’re a UK, US or EU citizen you do need a visa to visit Uganda for up to 90 days. If you are travelling from outside these countries, we recommend all others to check with their local embassy or online (as you can apply from the comfort of your laptop)

There’s also an option to get an e-visa for Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda combined if you’re visiting more countries than one. The easiest way to apply for this on Uganda’s High Commission website.

Please note regulations may change due to COVID-19, so please keep up to date with news.

Health

Some vaccinations may be required to enter Uganda. As such, it is very important to check with your GP before travelling. Your GP will be able to provide you with all up to date travel information and will give you updates if regulation changes.

Travel insurance is mandatory on all our trips. We also recommend that you carry a First Aid kit and hand sanitisers / antibacterial wipes as well as any personal medical requirements.
