Location:

Galle, Sri Lanka's historic port city and the entrance to a series of intimate sandy bays cut out of the island's exotic southern shoreline, is located on the south western coast.

The majority of people visit Galle to see the 17th century fort, which has a beautiful collection of colonial edifices from the British, Dutch, and Portuguese colonial periods.

Galle Fort's picturesque lanes provide some of the most lovely city strolls on the island, not only for the historic structures that line its cobbled streets but also for the charming boutiques, cafés, and gelaterias located along them. The coral and limestone ramparts are a bustling hive of activity, especially near the end of the day when spontaneous cricket games erupt and people from all walks of life converge on the western walls to witness an Indian Ocean sunset.

Galle has convenient access to beautiful local beaches for swimming, diving, and surfing, as well as boat trips to view whales and dolphins in the deep sea. Galle’s verdant palm-dominated interior home to lowland tea factories, centuries-old Buddhist temples, ageing rain forests and vast cinnamon-edged Koggala Lake also beg to be explored.
