Kumu Beach Hotel, Balapitiya

From

This 10 bedroom retreat on Sri Lanka's southwest coast is both private and unassuming, and only footsteps away from the white-powdered sands of Balapitiya.

Set against golden coastlines fringed by swaying coconut palms, sits the majestic Kumu Beach Hotel. This 10 bedroom retreat on Sri Lanka's southwest coast is both private and unassuming, and only footsteps away from the white-powdered sands of Balapitiya. Each room allows you to gaze out over the ocean from the comfort of your four-poster beds, while the rooftop terraces are primed for intimate stargazing opportunities.

Its grassy lawns are dotted with lazy hammocks and mahogany loungers, which perfectly compliment the infinity pool, chic outdoor dining areas and personalised high-end butler services. A few highlights of a stay at Kumu Beach include spectacular sunsets, warm sea swims, and nesting marine turtles. During the mid-day sun, enjoy exotic smoothies and iced Ceylon tea that will help you stay cool while lounging by the ocean-facing infinity pool or on a daybed beneath the sandy palms.

Local artisans were engaged to design and transform the interior and exterior spaces, while the idea to implement vast timber dining decks, fringed with spider lilies and lush meadows of green grass, now serves as the ideal site for sun-dappled breakfast and candlelit dinners under a blanket of stars.
